My DAILY WORK DETAILS – Project SDLC
My Role in Project Requirement Gathering
Have vast exposure on both Waterfall Model (around 7 years) and also agile methodology (2 years).
Waterfall Model:
· I have effectively worked on various project phases in both Fixed Bid and Embedded types of projects. Most of my IT industry projects followed Waterfall Model and have good experience and hold on the SDLC.
· Driven the projects end-to-end flowing through all the phases technically and also with good management skills.
Agile Methodology:
· Extensively worked on Sprints spread across many Iterations in Agile Project (T Mobile and J&J in CapGemini). Used JIRA tool and Rally to break the activities into small work packages to facilitate task delegation to the team members.
· Effectively monitored the tasks that were carry forwarded from previous sprints to further until its completion. Ensured the story points in the JIRA tasks and Rally Tasks are in sync with the summarized effort numbers.
· Weekly monitored and generated reports out of the tasks completed and reviewed it with the management for feedbacks and comments.
Other Tasks:
· Involved in driving initial meetings and discussions in order to understand the basic needs/objectives of the project. Scheduled meetings with Stakeholders, Clients, End Users, Customers, and Business Analysts etc to gather requirements.
· I have hosted war room sessions to discuss, identify and decide the roles and responsibilities of each stakeholders. Also to timely follow-up for the action items and have them tracked effectively until completion.
· Identified the team or people behind the information sources and to consolidate all the project requirements. I have identified the potential assumptions and have them verified against each requirement KPIs.
Requirement Gathering:
· Categorized as Technical and Business requirements, noted them and analyzed in terms of requirement gathering. First step I have gathered the Business needs of the Project, Reason behind the project, and Main objective of the project.
· To relate and connect the Business needs to the technical aspects available to our capabilities. Initiated and conducted technical POCs related to the decisions made during the meetings and provide supporting documents for review. Submit various proposals based on the prior experiences considering the cost and efforts involved.
· To make sure we have all the necessary inputs for our Ball Park estimations supporting effort figures closely to the actuals. Ensure there are no blockages or any technical hick-ups related to configurations and accesses/licenses.
· Maintain and manage all the project related documents in the SharePoint and have them officially approved initiating an approval through SharePoint workflow. Walk through the BRD document back to the Clients or with the Authors to ensure and confirm our understandings are as per their expectations. I have identified the risks and also have them noted with mitigations to be further agreed and signed by Stakeholders.
Ownership taken during Data Analysis, Design and ETL Solution
Owned and worked on the design portion of the BI Data Flow, to decide the solution approach.
· To review and to work on the peer comments to have discussions finalizing the ETL Solution (both technical and business related). Proactively ensure if there are any data volumetric challenges and consider them as an input to the design phase.
· Addressed various kind of issues during data analysis phase - Integrity Issues, Data Issues, Process Improvements, Access Issues, and Data Security Issues etc. To note down all the risk factors along with their mitigations and have them validated in advance.
· Collate and integrate the ETL Solution proposed and have them reviewed and approved by the management and architects. Ensure we have all the necessary details and points in BRD Document and have it reviewed. Also to conduct POC (Proof of Concept) for any kind new technical approach or solutions provided.
· To check the new capabilities of a Tool or an Application in order to have it used during the requirement implementation (Build Phase). Prior concluding on a particular technical approach, ensure that we have put all necessary efforts in exploring all possible options available. To document the need and the reason behind the architectural decisions made and also to support the design proposals.
Project Build Phase: My day-to-day activities
Stepping into many roles during Project Build Phase:
Technical Team Lead
Project Module Lead
Business Analyst
ETL Designer
ETL Developer
Quality Defect Analyst
· Building HLD document having reference to many other supporting documents. To come up with the list of all the object inventories that would be used in the Project Build Phase. Include the assumptions made during the requirement phase and provide more details over it.
· Creating LLD or SSD documents considering the available information and approved documents. Provide a complete and detailed column to column mapping business logic along with pictorial representation for ease of build to the developers.
· Provide all necessary KT to the peers and to the team to kick start the development phase. Ensure we have the right and correct Object Inventory prior the development phase.
· Draw process improvement plans and have them followed during all the project phases. To provide and conduct necessary trainings and KT sessions to the team mates and junior resources on new capabilities.
· Conducted constant meetings and discussions with the Client to report and resolve the issues during Build Phase. To implement the best practices like reusability, ETL standard adherence, Peer Review, Code Migration Checklist etc.
· Include and involve testing teams during various project phases facilitating them for test case preparations. Exclusive data mocking to test and check the Ideal Case Scenarios.
· To perform negative testing and include them as part of the regular test cases.
· System configuration related best practices implementation like parameterization and comments addition etc. Timely monitor the progress of the project tasks and regular task health check and progress reports.
· Ensure we follow all the standards in terms of process in order to avoid configuration related defects (Example: To follow Code Checklist). Timely demonstrate the deliverables to the client or stakeholders in order to check if the approach followed is as per their expectations.
Out of Box Activities
Playing a dual role as Technical Lead and Project Manager, I have contributed a lot in team building activities and also in grooming resources for maximum utilization.
· Having all the Project related documents saved in the SharePoint for reference. Manage Technical Project Documents as assets enabling the industrialization implementation. These will or may be used for similar upcoming projects as valuable inputs.
· Cross training resources to improve them technically and also to obtain complete resource utilization. Ensure to document the 'Lessons Learnt' during the project tenure and have the document reserved as the Organization Asset for further reference.
· Creating SR to Informatica Inc. - related to any Power center product issues (SFTP - Parameterization Failure, Special Chars Handling).
