CSI Inc. owns a flagship product called MAGNET Municipal – which is essentially a workflow management system for townships. Functioning as back-end Data Analyst and database developer, I was mainly involved in the development of SQL codes.
Responsibilities included:
● Data Quality and Data Validation: Use SQL code to check incoming data from customers (municipalities) for data quality issues (like valid address, account number and other data integrity issues) and write SQL code to do required transformation before they can be loaded into the data model that supports the MAGNET data model.
● Data Integration and Data Migration: Design staging area where data from external sources are loaded and write SQL codes to do required transformation (for example look up transformation to pick up standardized codes) before data is loaded into core area. Migrate data from Unit and Test databases to Production databases.
● Enhancement of the back-end data model to match business requirement: Participate in analysis and design sessions with customer representatives and business analyst and validate against the existing data model and recommend changes to existing data and process model. This was a fairly involved and frequent task since each client had specific requirement and different data structure.
● Development and maintenance of SQL codes: Responsible for development and maintenance of all data loading, data transformation and data presentation codes consisting of SQL codes and data loading routines.
● SQL performance tuning: Optimize SQL code, work with DBA to provide input about creation of indexes, partition strategy based on data distribution, database maintenance schedules for performance optimization.
● Address production support issues like ensuring Service Level Agreement concerning system availability, using SQL code to address support ticket raised by customers, ensuring database performance
