Strategy & Leadership
· Engaged by founders to take a business idea and build a best-of-class, industry respected Capital Markets service bureau, currently processing trillions of dollars annually and supporting several of the largest banks and trading institutions on Wall St.
· Participated in M&A efforts, executing both business and technology-related due diligence tasks, growing technology staff five-fold and customer base four-fold in recent years.
· Responsible for management and maintenance of technology infrastructure and the implementation and oversight of procedural best practices, with particular emphasis on audit and regulatory compliance, and increasingly cybersecurity requirements.
· Empowered by executive management to identify, design and/or develop new technologies and solutions that will improve efficiency, reduce costs, and offer competitive advantages and/or growth opportunities.
· Drove adoption of ITIL/ITSM best practices, implemented using Atlassian product suite, to improve service level maturity.
· Defined and executed strategic R&D initiatives – feasibility studies and proofs of concept in applicability of emerging technologies such as Blockchain (preparing for DTCC adoption), machine learning, and use of GPU/CUDA programming, to name a few.
· Communicated technology strategy to employees, stakeholders, and where required, customers, utilizing a number of strategic analysis techniques, including PESTEL, Ansoff, 5 Forces, and SWOT.
· Piloted use of OKR to improve identifying and measuring team objectives.
Software Architecture & Development
· Architected next-generation trading platform – a reactive microservices-based architecture using Spring Boot, Java 8/Scala, React, and Kafka.
· Implemented MarginCalculator, a SPA/SaaS TBA margining solution, recently relaunched to support the FINRA Rule 4210 (Margin Requirements). Implemented in Java 8/Scala, and the Play Framework.
· Implemented strategies around legacy application modernization, emphasizing use of microservices and functional programming.
· Led in-house adoption of Agile SDLC and DevOps.
Infrastructure
· Designed and implemented geographically dispersed data centers utilizing technologies from Checkpoint, Nokia, Cisco, Citrix, VMware, Oracle, Nimble, Microsoft, IBM, and Redhat.
· Overseeing data center consolidation and refresh following recent company acquisition, leading to projected savings of at least 60%.
· Overseeing expansion into Oracle Cloud, and appraisal of secondary cloud providers, including AWS and IBM Cloud.
· Implemented Cybersecurity strategy based on NIST Framework in preparation of DFS NYCRR Part 500 compliance requirement, and the SEC 17a-4 regulation around electronic data archiving (as Acting CISO).
· Installed, supported and managed all Oracle RAC environments utilizing both DataGuard and Dbvisit for replication. Releases supported are 10g, 11gR2 and 12cR2.
· Piloted Data Warehouse and Data Lake implementations to support Finance Department and Quantitative Analytics Team.
· Generated infrastructure-related objectives and budgets; reviewed and approved major contracts for computing and IT services and equipment.
