Oracle DBA

I am a DBA with over 7+ plus years of experience as Oracle DBA on 9i, 10g, 11g R2 and 12C database servers with RAC, ASM, Data Guard, and Grid Control. I have recently migrated 9i, 10g and 11g database to another data center using Oracle Data Guard feature with a minimal downtime. While I worked on multiple OS systems, I have good hold of RHEL administrations. I have extensive experience setting up Maximum Availability Architectures and Capacity on Demand Architectures using various products, protocols and methodologies from Oracle including 10g Real Application Cluster (RAC), Data Guard, ASM, Grid Control, Automatic Database Diagnostic Management (ADDM), RMAN etc.

 

For one of my client in the past and since they were using standard edition of Oracle, Supporting Oracle OEM 12c for all reporting and alerting systems. I was bounded not to use the Data Guard for migration. In that case, I relied on scripts to move the data. I used rysnc utility on Linux platform to keep the archivelogs in sync. During the cutover time, and since I had already database restored on the other server, I just recovered the remaining logs and within no time, whole RAC was migrated to new hardware.

 

Among with major migration, I have also used export/import utility to move the data. Data pump is my favorite as it is much faster than traditional exp/imp. It also provides more robust options to better move the data without any human errors. Going forward, I believe data pump will remain the choice of DBAs.

 

RMAN is another tool that I have used under the umbrella of “migrations”. RMAN "duplicate database" remains my favorite since 10g. However, starting from 11g it is more sophisticated with better options of sending the backups over the network. 10g lacked this feature and DBA was forced to take a full backup prior to "duplicate database" option.

 

I am familiar with many new features of 11g. I have exposure on Active Data Guard and worked with new features of ASM. For database monitoring and day to day maintenance, I have used OEM, DBConsole, Grid control and scripts.
