ACADEMIC PROJECTS in Masters (2014-2016):

Room Scheduler (Implemented with Ruby on Rails) (Fall 2015: Web Architecture and Cloud Computing):

  • Room Scheduler provides a website interface for users to book the library rooms. There will be types of users called Admin, Student and Faculty. Admin can create new users. Once the room is selected, this application needs login from any of the users to reserve the room. The application then automatically sends confirmation email to the user.
  • This website allows users only from a community to login into the system. A new user has to request admin for credentials. This website allows admin to create new user and the system will send email to users with credentials once created.

ID3 Algorithm for predicting promoters and non-promoters DNA sequences using Java (Spring 2014: Machine Learning):

·         This project is about implementing decision tree algorithm for finding promoters and non- promoters of given DNA sequences of particular data set which facilitates the transcription of a particular gene.

·         Entropy impurity calculation is done and Information gain is calculated using entropy.

·         Coding has been done for initiating a decision tree on different data sets and also initiates both root and children nodes and classify the child nodes.

Naive Bayes Document Classifier (Implemented with Matlab) (Spring 2014: Machine Learning):

·         In this project, Naive Bayes document classifier has been implemented and applied to the 20  newsgroups dataset to predict which newsgroup a given document was posted to.

·         Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE), Maximum a posteriori (MAP) are estimated and Naive Bayes  Classifier is built and the test data is classified in to 20 news groups.

·         Misclassification is identified with the confusion Matrix.

Logistic Regression based Music Classifier(Implemented with Python) (Spring 2014: Machine Learning):

  • Music classifier was developed with Gradient descent & Logistic Regression implementation and Music files are categorized in to different genres.
  • Music file frequency intensities are obtained as features using Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients(MFCC) with which the Music files are classified.

Diabetic Retinopathy Detection(Implemented with Matlab) (Spring 2014: Machine Learning):

·         To identify signs of diabetic retinopathy in eye images using Machine Learning techniques with better accuracy at Kaggle, a world’s largest community of data scientists.

·         Succeeded in developing the algorithm for the same using image extraction and stood in 74th position in the leaderboard among 330 teams in the competition.

·         Huge train data, and test data being around 50% the size of the train data, took around 12-18 hours to run and classify all the images.

Secure Online Banking (Implemented with Java) (Spring 2014: Cyber Security):

·         This project aims at implementing a secure online banking system which will enable the customers of a bank to access their account information and perform transactions online through a confidential communication channel without having to go to a bank physically.

·         The main concern with Internet banking is security. The application authenticates a user if he enters valid credentials which will allow him to perform various transactions.

New York Times Article Analysis and Classification (Implemented with Java, Hadoop, Mahout, R studio)    (Fall 2014 – BigData):

·         JSON format  have been used to download New York Times.

·         Unique news articles obtained with HASH set are parsed with JSON followed with preprocessing and stored in required format.

·         TF- IDF score is computed with Map - Reduce methods.

·         K mean clustering is performed with Apache Mahout and Matlab. Top 20 words for each clusters are obtained.
