OSI PI Consultant Engineer at Baxter International from DEC 2015 to Present:

Here I am working on large controls project involving OSI-PI data archiving and reporting of tags from Rockwell’s Controllogix and Emerson’s DeltaV controllers. AB Controllogix tags are being logged by OSI PI ICU configured for OPC-DA using FactoryTalk Gateway OPC server for Rockwell controllers and the DeltaV DCS.  DeltaV tags are being logged into the OSI-PI archive via OPC-DA and DeltaV Continuous Historian. PI Datalink is being used for reporting.

 

2.      DELTAVALVE LLC, Channelview, TX, USA

Consultant /Senior Controls Engineer (Oil and Gas Midstream) SEP 2015 to Nov 2015:

With DeltaValve LLC and sister concern TapcoEnpro LLC I was involved as a consultant Controls Engineer involved in programming and startup of DCU (Delayed Coker Unit) Coker Drums top and Bottom unheading systems using throttling capable Delta Valves and for TapcoEnpro LLC the control/startup of the Regenerated and spent catalyst slide valves to control the catalyst flow to the FCCU reactor.  Projects are based on AB Controllogix (Rslogix5000 ver 12 to 20 and Studio 5000 - Ver 21) and Triconex TMR Tricon PLCs’, Modicon’s Quantum and Unity PLCs’ and Siemens S7-1200 Simatic controllers and HMIs’ used are Siemens WinCC, Rockwell’s FactoryTalk View and Schneider’s Wonderware 9.5/10.0/10.1. All our systems communicate to the customer’s Plant DCS systems via a serial/ENET link.

Worked on the Design and implementation of Digital Oil Field in Baker Hughes Inc.,
involved here in design programming and implementation, and also Applications/Consulting support of Scada and Control systems to the Operations/Marketing teams of Baker Hughes. I am also involved in the Workflow design software and Bigdata based data Historization for optimization solutions using Cassandra, Remote Monitoring support of our ARTIFICIAL LIFT Wells, Wellhead controls with RTU’s and Enhanced Oil recovery technologies for the conventional oil fields.

Projects:

  • Worked with detailed Administration of the OSI-PI server/Historian, PI-AF and Processbook etc.,

restoring completely from backups, use of PI JDBC driver to access data from a Redhat LINUX system.

With Curtiss-Wright Corporation I was involved in design programming and startup and customer Support as well as Applications support to the marketing teams of DCU (Delayed Coker Unit) Coker Drums top and Bottom unheading systems using Curtiss Wright’s own Delta Valves and Regenerated and spent catalyst slide valves to control the catalyst flow to the FCCU reactor.  I do Projects based on AB Controllogix and Triconex TMR Tricon PLCs’, Modicon’s Quantum and Unity PLCs’ and Rockwell’s FactoryTalk View and Wonderware 9.5/10.0/10.1 HMIs’.   • Delayed Coker Unit (DCU) upgrade of the Hunt Refining Company in Tuscaloosa, Alabama with 2 new Drums with our Bottom unheading Delta Valves.
  • Programmed and did the factory acceptance test (FAT) on a 4 Drum Top and Bottom Unheading system for LukOil Perm Refinery in Russia.
  • Worked on the startup and commissioning of a fully automated 4 Drum Top and Bottom unheading system at “Total Petrochemicals USA Inc.” in Port Arthur, Texas.
  • Programmed and started up a 4 Drum Top unheading system at FHR (Flint Hills Resources) refinery in Minnesota based on AB PLC 5/40.
  • Programmed and started up a 4 Drum Bottom unheading system at Pemex Refinery in Mexico based on AB Controllogix.
  • Started up a 4 Drum Top and Bottom Unheading system at Repsol-Cartagena refineries in Spain, and Conoco Philips refinery in Rodeo California both systems based on Modicon’s Quantum processors and Concept and Fastrak software respectively. Developed our systems communication with Honeywell Experion PKS DCS over Modbus RTU. 
  • Programmed commissioned a 2 Drum top and Bottom unheading system for SHELL PSR (Puget Sound Refinery) in Anacortes, Washington, system is based on AB Controllogix.
  • Programmed and commissioned a 6 Drum top and Bottom unheading system for Essar Vadinar refinery in Jamnagar Gujarat, India and a 2 Drum Top and Bottom unheading system at IOCL refinery in Guwahati in Assam India, both systems are based on AB Controllogix processors in hot-backup.
  • Currently working on 6 Drum top and Bottom unheading system for SAUDI ARAMCO refinery in Saudi Arabia. The system is based on Triconex TMR 3008MP processors. Worked on transferring the DCU tags via OPC-DA/HDA to OSI PI-Server tags to be used in PI-Processbook for Visualization for system status monitoring.

 

(iv) HPI - LLC, Houston, TX, USA:

Senior Project Engineer (Power, Oil and Gas), one year Contract, May 2009 to May 2010

  • With HPI - LLC I did design programming and startup of Gas and Steam Turbine units with digital Governor control systems in Power plants and large ships etc. Did Projects based on AB Controllogix and RTP Corp PLCs’ and Rockwell’s FactoryTalk View and Wonderware HMIs’.

Projects:

  • Recently completed the upgrade of the US NAVY ship USS Paul F Foster which had a total of 8 Gas Turbine Engines, 4 for propulsion and 4 for onboard Power Generation, and a no. of Synchro-device based navigational control systems. All the navigational data was input and output to a RTP PLC system via a North Atlantic 78CS2 Synchro-Device interface card with a Raw-TCP to Modbus-TCP Custom written driver in “C”.
  • Also for HPI-LLC worked on a Firefighting Water Pump system in the world’s first offshore Re-Gasification Liquefied Natural Gas Platform ADRIATIC-LNG in the Adriatic Sea near Venice in Italy which included 3 Diesel Engine based firefighting pumps being controlled automatically by AB Compactlogix processors and AB Panelview Plus.
  • Worked on a Ship Dock project for Kinder Morgan in Houston which involved the Loading and Unloading of liquids via a ship and Barge dock and also controlling three MVRUs’ (Marine Vapor Recovery Units).  The system is controlled by AB PLC5/40 and AB SLC5/04s’. The HMI used is Wonderware Intouch 10.0.2. Wonderware extensions were used via VB.net apps programmed with the provided dlls and Read/Write functions provided by the Wonderware Toolkit.

 

(v) Alstom Power Inc., Schofield, WI, USA:

Senior Project Engineer, October 2005 to April 2009:

·         At Alstom Power Inc (formerly North American Phoenix Energy Services) I did design programming and startup of Hydroelectric Power plants with digital Governor Control systems.

·         The work here involved all the industrial networks like RIO, DH+, DH485, Devicenet, Controlnet, Ethernet, and the programming of Allen Bradley and Modicon PLCs’ and HMI software like RSView ME & SE, and Wonderware Intouch 9.0 and 10.0 and Wonderware Application Server 3.0. We do extensive data logging using RSSQL / InSQL (or DDE, NETDDE) and MS SQL Server 7.0/2000/2005 and MS ACCESS and Excel and also Visual Basic 6.0 code when needed.

Projects:

·         Brascan, ON, Canada, involving 3 no’s Kaplan turbines programmed using Modicon’s Unity processor and Unity Pro XL Software and Pro-Face/Xycom HMIs’.

·         SMUD (Sacramento Municipal Utility District), UARP California, did 7 Francis Governors and 3 nos. 6 needle Impulse Governors with 2-4-6 Needle sequencing involved. The system is programmed with Rockwell Automation's Controllogix processor, RSview SE & ME for a Distributed HMI and RSSQL is being used for data logging on SQL Server 2000 over a WAN.

·         HetchHetchy Power(SFPUD), California also has 6 needle Impulse turbines with the controls based on Modicon’s Unity processor/Software and the SCADA system was Wonderware App Server 3.0 which was integrated into the customer’s existing Galaxy, also included a Terminal Server with 2 Thin Clients for HMI viewing/control.

·         Worked on WPSC project using Metretek Cellular Modems to acquire remote Data with Schneider Electric’s CITECT 7.0 HMI for a small SCADA System and another WPSC project involving Modicon 984 PLCS’ and Parker’s InteractX HMI running 8 hydroelectric turbines and advanced reporting tools like Canary labs Trendlink, Trendexport and TrendReporter and Sytech XLReporter.

·         Also worked on several Hydroelectric jobs in Canada including 2 jobs with OPG (Ontario Power Generation) involving Positioners and Governors based on Modicon controls in their Calabogie and Niagara Falls Locations.

 

(vi) Van Ert Electric Co, Wausau, WI, USA:

Project Engineer, Oct 1st 2000 to September 2005:

·         Design development and startup of Process control systems and SCADA systems using RADIO and LEASED LINE Modems for Industries like Paper, Food and Utilities (like Electricity generation and Water and Wastewater plants like Wausau Water Works in Wisconsin and Michigan).

·         Project at Mosinee paper Wisconsin comprised of the entire wet side on PLC5/80C (controlnet) and Bailey DCS doing the dry side controls with hardware interfacing between the 2 systems.

·         Worked on the industrial networks like RIO, Modbus, DH+, DH485, Devicenet, Controlnet, Ethernet, and programming Allen Bradley and Modicon PLCs’ and HMI/SCADA software from different vendors like RSView32 , Wonderware Intouch and Intellution Fix32 and data logging systems using DDE, NETDDE and MS SQL Server and MS ACCESS and Excel and also Visual Basic 6.0.

Projects:

·         Commissioned the Weston-3 Coal Fired Power Plant in Weston, Wisconsin. The plant was based on Modicon 434-12 Quantum processors in Hot-Backup and Wonderware HMI.

·         For 2 years I worked on a subcontract with L&S Electric Co. working on programming Hydro-electric power Plants controlling Digital Governors for Generators upto 180MW. The programming was in FBDs’ in Modicon Concept Ver 2.5 and 2.6 and the initial releases of the Unity Pro software.

·         For L&S Electric Co. in Wisconsin I commissioned 2 Governors for two 183MW Francis turbines in CBK Power Co. in the province of Laguna in the Philippines as a subcontractor for IMPSA Hydro, and then did a project for EWEB Eugene, Oregon with two 8MW generators, a Francis and a Kaplan.

·         I also programmed and commissioned Hydro Governors for Shoshone Hydro, Army Corps of Engineers,  American Hydro (Ottumwa, Iowa and Boise , Idaho) etc.

·         JOHN DEERE (CLUTH-BRAKE SYSTEM), FORD MOTOR CO. (single axis motion Control using a 1746- HSRV SLC Servo Control Module providing Absolute, Incremental and Speed motions) and MONSANTO (PLC5 AND FISHER-PROVOX MASTER SLAVE SYSTEM) and others.

·         Also, I was able to successfully establish remote communications with a SLC5/02(and 1747KE) using a Cellular Phone and a V.cellular to RJ-11 protocol converter, for the Remote Programming of our Sand Blasting Machine.
