Project Profile

Project LAKSHYA (SAP roll out to AGRICO), Agrico is the oldest profit center of Tata Steel, catering to the rural segment, having a turnover of 104 crores. Some of its products are shovel, hammer, sickle, crowbar etc.

The objective of SAP roll out in Big Bang approach was to

Provide an IT platform that may be expanded to support meet Agrico’s business requirements      arising out of expansion or acquisitions.

Deploy common business processes across the organization (Tata Steel)

The benefits expected from the project Lakshya

Reduction in inventory by 1% yearly

Savings due to reduction in sales loss by 3%

Better pricing control at CA points for finished goods

Roles and Responsibilities

My role in this project was that of a Sr. SD Consultant and as Basis team lead. I was the functional resource responsible for implementation of SD Module covering sales, logistic execution, and fulfillment and billing process, in the AGRICO SAP implementation. I was also responsible for setting up of export sales process and design and development of various SD reports. Additional role as a team QA was to ensure that the deliverables of each stage were as per the required quality guidelines and well documented.

The Project details are enumerated below:

  • Sales Domestic and Export

Setting up of sales organization structure, credit control area, sales offices, creating plant including 26 EPA’s and 8 depots.

Maintaining sales unit of measure and stock keeping unit as nos instead of kgs unlike in steel was the major difference. However the weight unit of measure was kgs and conversion rate was kept as the alternating unit of measure. Also concept of bundle size was incorporated.

Different Processes implemented

Stock Transfer from Tata Steel to Agrico-EPA

Stock Transfer from Agrico-EPA to CA

Sale from EPA to end customer (Export/Domestic)

Sale from CA to end customer (Export/Domestic)

Major Project Challenges addressed

  • Shipping

Pricing at delivery level was the main feature configured which was not there in any of the TATA STEEL division. Normally orders are booked for the entire month and dispatches are sent in small lots. It is not practical to confirm the entire quantity of the order. Hence the credit check has been configured at PGI level, which is a major deviation from other divisions.

  • Rebate management

Target discount on sales volume.

Early bird offer on sales volume

  • Credit management

April 08– Sep 08,          Sr. Functional Consultant (SD)          Tata Steel

Team Size: 5

Project Profile

Ferro Alloys & Minerals Division (FA&MD) was created in 1993 as a Profit Centre of the Tata Iron & Steel Co. Ltd, in order to have a greater focus on the Chrome and Manganese businesses since Minerals and Ferro alloys have been identified as key thrust areas. FA&MD has a turnover of ~ Rs. 1500 Crores (Equivalent USD figure) with a history of being consistently EVA+ despite an industry-wide downward price spiral.

Deployment Roles and Responsibilities

I was responsible for the design and implementation of the SD module and involved from the phase of

Business blue print, Realization, final Preparation and Go-Live and also Post Go-Live support

Also was the team lead for export sales configuration. Due to business process complexities, various

new features and enhancements were configured.

New features incorporated is as below:

  • Pro-Rata configuration

The customer pays premium if the chrome % of the material dispatched is higher than the chrome % mentioned in the contract for materials Cr Ore lumpy, Cr Ore Friable, Fe Chrome, Cr Ore Concentrate.

The above business requirement was handled through module pull program, which was called at the order creation and pricing procedure enhancement.

  • The Penalty/bonus for moisture % and size %

At the time of invoicing penalty or bonus for moisture% and size% is calculated on the basis of limit given during order and actual % arrived during batch picking.

  • Proof of delivery

For export sales of chrome concentrate, it was required that the customer will not pay for additional moisture content. Hence billing will be for quantity minus the moisture. However the stock out will be at full quantity. This was achieved by using the concept of VLPOD

  • Delivery Split

Huge volume of dispatches takes place from plants in 600/700 small capacity trucks, thereby increasing the data entry load. Hence the feature of delivery split was configured.

  • Various reports configuration.

ABAP Development of invoice printing program

Order print program

Various query based reports.

  • Training manual preparation using IDEMO package and imparting training

IDEMO is special software for recording the screen shots of computer desktop as a movie which can be paused, replayed, and fast-forwarded etc. Training manual prepared using this software was very useful for the end users.

  • Configuring the Bolt on package for Export module

March 07 – April 08,             Team Lead: Export sales (SD)            Tata Steel

Team Size: 3

Various profit centers of Tata Steel are in Export business. I was appointed as SD Export Team Lead.

  • I was fully responsible for the design & implementation of all enhancements and new developments in export area of entire Tata steel. This also included interfacing with Business partners, vendors and customers.

  • I was engaged in various improvement activities to enhance SLA compliance and responsible for effective ticket resolution and elimination of repetitive problems by taking corrective and preventive action.

§  Had opportunity to work in SD and MM Pricing routines wherein creation of new account keys and setting for OBYC and OKB9 were required.

§  Writing various alternate calculation routines and requirement types required for pricing procedures

§  Managed the bolt on package OPTITRADE provided by third party IVL Collabera; a module catering to the Pre and post export documentation requirements. This package also includes modules like bill of exchange, Negotiation and Realization. Other payment modules like Ocean freight payment, commission payments are also built in the package. I handled all the issues related to this package, acting as a single point contact between the customers and the vendor.

Jul 05 – Feb 07,      Team Lead: Supply Chain TOC Initiative        Tata Steel Limited

Team Size: 5

Project Profile

In the scenario where company is talking of 2K/20 K, where huge reduction in manpower is being aimed at, IT enabled In-Bound Supply chain is a pre-requisite and an enabler.

Theory of Constraints was applied for achieving an effective inbound/outbound supply chain process in coke, sinter and iron making divisions of TATA STEEL TOC speaks of defining and maintaining correct buffer size of each and every critical material (raw materials and finished products). In order to get correct position of material inventory, it is essential to post the production and consumption data in SAP on real time basis. However this was not happening and hence need for automating the entire process of production and consumption booking and transfer posting was felt. This was made possible by development of an interface between SAP-PP module and oracle based CSI (coke, sinter & Iron) information system.

Similarly, on the outbound supply chain side, monitoring of the customer warehouse buffer position was necessary to ensure the timely supply of finished goods. The concept of TOC was used and an interface between SAP SD module and Oracle based information system was developed to generate sales order in SAP.

Deployment Roles and Responsibilities

My roles as Team lead was to conceptualize, design and develop the architecture of the entire interface module.

The details are enumerated below:

  • Establishing MIS systems in various departments like coke, sinter & iron making departments of TATA STEEL.

  • Fetching data for production recording and consumption booking from various sources like PHD servers, I- historian database, oracle database, level 1 and level 2 systems into a common oracle database via oracle procedures using DBLINKS.

  • Pushing these data from oracle tables to SAP R/3 y-tables.

  • Developing BDCs for pushing data from these Y-tables to SAP standard tables; hence automating the PP transactions without any manual intervention.

  • Development of various dynamic excels based TOC reports namely Buffer penetration report, consumption reports, inventory reports, compliance reports etc. by pulling data from Sap tables. The reports have been built with features of online refresh and update.

  • Development of Web based MIS system.

Education / Trainings Attended

  • SAP – SD (ECC 6)
  • Oracle DBA
  • C
  • Visual basic
