New And Upgrade projects 

Developed a Proprietary HMI Operators Control and Down-Time Reporting System for 2 Manufacturing High Speed Systems

Sr Electrical and Controls Engineer coordinating 2 million dollar capital projects with medical robotic assembly operations with 20 paired robot arms under cGMP, lean and FDA regulations. Working with teams of multi-disciplined engineers and involving responsibility in work at/with an overseas company in Germany.  Provided software architecture design, programming maintenance, and repairs for high volume manufacturing equipment containing robots, PLC, HMI, vision inspection and data collection systems (DCS). Using software languages such as V+, AIM for Omron/Adept robots, VBScript, Active Server Pages (ASP), HTML/HTTP/XML, Visual Basic 6, Visual Basic Applications (VBA) for MS Office, and operating systems (2k/XP/Windows CE).  

A 42” 750 Mile NGL Pipeline with 18 Unmanned Remote Controlled Facilities

Consulting, design, factory acceptance testing, and commissioning of automation and communications systems on pipeline equipment of over 18 sites with capital worth of over 600 Million Dollars including 2 pump stations each had 2-2,000hp - 4,160volt Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) and three automatic custody transfer flow meter stations and fail safe valves. On-site Commissioning during construction phase, directing of electrical controls, Vsat and GE MDS 900Mhz radio communications, technical personnel during build up and installation phases. Controls included electrical low voltage switch gear, and PLC I/O layout drawings, and preparing design philosophy and functional specification documents.  Developed and planned the Interface with each Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Human operator panels and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.

CO2 Compressor Facility And 80 Mile Pipeline to Oil Field Injection Wells

For 2 projects, one a major 3 million and two others at 1 million dollars each. Performed sub-management of project activities, tracking, execution, and change management notification. Led electrical and automation team on design Factory Acceptance Testing(FAT) and onsite commissioning of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) controls, computer network, and HMI screen development (UI) developed from P&ID’s process documentation. Design equipment included Instrumentation, Electrical Switch gear, VFD’s Dehi Skids, and Flow meters, large skid 6 Cylinder Reciprocal Arial compressors driven by 4000HP electric motors, and 2 Cylinder Arial compressors driven by 500HP electric motors, pre-stage compression blowers and horizontal liquid pumps. Installing and troubleshooting of Ethernet and RF GSM and VSAT Radio network systems, Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), and motor and feeder protection (GE Multilin). The company over all won an Engineering award for the overall design.  I was complimented highly on the control User Interface (UI) design with remote access via mobile devices.

Installation of a New Spiral-Freezer and Upgrade of Anhydrous Ammonia Refrigeration System at 2 other plants

Responsible for electrical and controls engineering activities in multiple multi-million dollar capital project expenditures on manufacturing equipment, directed technical and contracted personnel during startup and installation phases for processed chicken. The Spiral-Freezer project included an automated industrial Sub 60 degree ammonia refrigerated spiral freezer system with a proprietary designed on a live in-production defrost procedure.  The other 2 projects where upgrades including swapping Schneider electric Symax PLC with a Quantum 934 PLC and including upgrades to controls on Sub 60 degree ammonia refrigeration blast freezers and other plant based equipment. Implemented automation controls and data collection systems following ANSI/ISA S95, USDA and company standards. Equipment included (Allen Bradley, Modicon), GE  iFIX, and Wonderware and Industrial Ethernet networks and communications.

Upgrade Natural Gas Compressor Facility Control Systems

Experience on capital projects worth over 100 Million Dollars consulting in designs of multiple compression facilities on pipelines for a major transporter in the north-east US. One facility, included a reciprocal compressor controls upgrade with a redundant control system using iFIX 5.5.  Another was 5 Solar Gas Turbine Engine and gas compressors with a mixing of different BTU gas values using an Emerson Bristol RTU.  Another project was converting 2 gas driven compressors to electric motors using 4,000hp 4,160volt Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) powered from a substation engineering team designed and installed.  Included automatic custody transfer stations and over-pressure fail safe valves and other Emergency Shut-down Systems (ESD). On-site Commissioning with the customer during construction phase, directing of electrical controls technical personnel during build up and installation phases.

Conagra Foods Cooked Food Temperature Analyzer Robotic System Project

Engineering Consultant on the design in collaboration with a University Professor, assisting in the design of a 8 line Robotic cooked food temperature analyzer system for salisbury steak gas fired Oven. Creating a custom HMI, programing moves on a moving belt to pick and place the Steaks on a temperature measuring apparatus using machine vision.  Creating a statistical adjustment of the oven belt speed.

E-Stamp Barcode For Mail Reader System Of USPS

Electrical/software Engineer at the University of Arkansas’s a research and development team - Arkansas Center for Technology Transfer (ACTT).  US Postal Service contract in creating software to read and decode a new barcode stamp (a USPS graphic eagle) and mail sorter equipment programs.

Turbine Compressor Emissions(NOX) Reduction

Principle Controls and Instrumentation engineer on a $250 thousand-dollar project in the controls system design of a turbine engine booster and emissions reduction. Commissioned, tested system and collected test data on a Solar Saturn gas turbine engine and gas compressor. Resulted in the company’s award of a U.S. Patent for NOX and fuel reduction, and increase in horsepower.

Project For A Down-Hole Oil Well Turbine Flowmeter

Before college for 5 years as an Engineering Technician developed prototype models of digital and analog electronic circuits along with electrical and assembly drawings for production. Testing yield 1% failure rates. Used digital storage oscilloscopes (DSO), position encoders, logic analyzer, and multi-meters. Wrote first draft operation manuals and specifications. Facilitated sales team demonstrations for new products.
